Volunteer Opportunities

• Do you like to cook?

  Do you have a garden/access to fresh vegetables and/or soup bones? We need more soup cooks – ideally, we will build up a roster so that each volunteer would only need to cook once or twice a month to keep us going. We can supply you with some ingredients and/or a budget if you could use that.

• Drive and Serve?

  Would you like to train with us by joining us on our route to become on of our “servers”? We have very specific guidelines when on our deliveries. Always, our priority is to respect the privacy of our sisters and brothers on the streets. We do not try to learn “their story”, nor do we even ask them their name when we meet. The first thing we try to do is to establish their trust! This is vital in order to be of help on a closer level, and is the core of our philosophy at Consider The Homeless! The hardest question we ask in the beginning is “Would you like bread or rolls with that soup?”

• Are you a local business?

  If you are a local business, a grocery store, a restaurant, or even a department store, would you like to be one of our our sponsors? Acme Bread was our first sponsor and has generously committed to providing regular bread donations to Consider The Homeless! Thank you Acme! Since then we have received a monthly supply of hearty beef bones from The Local Butcher Shop and most recently, Everett & Jones Barbeque has signed up to supply us with ribs and chicken several times a month.
  We need other Berkeley businesses willing to donate some food or supplies for us to use. We would love to have some local restaurants join us that would be willing to take a turn providing one-dish meals.

• Help with supplies?

  Volunteers to solicit and/or pick up donations.

• Like to sit at your computer?

  Research! There is a lot to do that can be done from the comfort of your home.

We have not even seen all of the ways yet that YOU could help us out! Got ideas?
